The aluminised film was used originally on the Apollo Lunar Module and helped protect the astronauts by reflecting solar heat whilst insulating the craft from the cold of space itself.

SBI window solar reduction films are made from a micro-thin layer of polyester and various metals that are adhered directly to your windows or roof.
